Setting up your competition for E-Scoring
Providing Access to Administrators
Overview
Although its use is optional, E-scoring can present a number of benefits such as the potential to reduce admin time and effort, along with the ability to score from a range of devices and platforms and the ability to score ‘offline’ when internet is not available. E-scoring can also consolidate paperwork, while a paper score sheet is recommended as a backup, the use of team sheets and collection of score sheets may be reduced.
While the E-Scoring portal is separate to the PlayHQ admin portal, you can access the E-Scoring portal here using your admin credentials. The two portals synchronize data, upon the E-Scoring device connecting to the internet.
To access E-Scoring, you will need either a PlayHQ administrator account or Electronic Scoring Admin access. Information about various administration roles and access can be found here.
E-scoring can be used on range of devices and platforms such as a PC, iPad, tablet or mobile phone device. For further information about compatible devices and browsers, click here.
Setting up your competition for E-Scoring
An association can decide whether to allow clubs to enter scores via the E-scoring platform. To enable this feature, you will need to navigate to Competition Management, select the relevant competition tile, and then choose the Settings tab. From here, go to Grade Default setting page and activate the toggle associated with Allow clubs to enter scores via electronic scoring. This toggle will be set to OFF as default.
Please note: While this will provide clubs the ability to access E-scoring, once this is accessed on game day, anyone will be able to score the actual game.
If you wish to de-activate (or activate) this toggle for selected grades within the competition, this can be done by navigating to Competition Management then select the relevant competition and season tile. You will then arrive at the Grades page, select the relevant grade, and then choose the Settings tab and the Grade sub-tab. Here you will be able to activate or deactivate this setting for the individual grade.
Review Game Settings
If you are satisfied with E-scoring access for clubs, we also recommend reviewing the settings which may impact E-Scoring. To review these, you will need to navigate to Competition Management then select the relevant competition tile and choose the Settings tab and the Game Defaults sub-tab. While you will be able to review all aspects relating to the game, we recommend specifically reviewing:
- Period type, length and scores
- Line-up limits
- Player positions
- Overtime
If you wish to enable/disable certain settings for selected grades within the competition this can be done by navigating to Competition Management then select the relevant competition and season tile. You will then arrive at the Grades page, select the relevant grade, and then choose the Settings tab and the Game sub-tab. Here you will be able to enable or disable settings for an individual grade.
Further information about managing grades can be found here.
Providing Access to Administrators
While all admin types will have access to E-Scoring, associations can provide specific E-Scoring access to an individual (which provides access to the E-scoring portal ONLY). To do so, navigate to My Organisation then select Admins and choose the + Invite new admin button.
Complete each required field and select from Electronic Scoring Admin the Role type dropdown menu, then choose the Invite admin button. The E-scoring admin will then receive an email to accept the invitation. Once accepted, they will have access to the E-scoring platform.
Game Day Preparation
In order to prepare for game day, line-ups can also be included in E-Scoring, including the recording of player scores (Goals & Misses). Options for selection of line-ups prior to the game, include:
- Via the PlayHQ Admin Portal – using the ‘Game Day’ menu item. For further information regarding this, click here.
- Via the PlayHQ Participant Portal (PlayHQ.com) by using the ‘Manager Access’ feature: Click here to read more about setting line-ups through management access
- In the E-Scoring application, once the game is downloaded, prior to the game start
If you wish to have players listed in E-Scoring and record player scores, think about when clubs/teams need to have line-ups finalized (ie. 1 day prior, 1-hour prior etc).
Scoring
Now that preparations are complete, you can access the E-scoring portal here. Information about Netball E-scoring can be found here.
